Dr. Makler has been in private practice in Richardson since 1976. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, the Dallas County Optometric Society and the Air Force Association. Dr. Makler is involved in the "Sight for Students" program providing free eye examinations and free eyewear to children. Dr. Makler has obtained the recognition as a "Therapeutic Optometrist" and "Optometric Glaucoma Specialist." The American Board of Optometry (ABO) has certified Dr. Makler as a "Diplomate, American Board of Optometry". The Oklahoma School of Optometry has recently named Dr. Makler as adjunct professor to participate in the education of optometry students.
Dr. Makler is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Makler attained the rank of Eagle Scout, was a Captain in the United States Air Force, and Chief of Optometry at Carswell Air Force Base in Texas. While on active duty, Dr. Makler earned the National Service Defense Medal and the small arms Marksmanship Ribbon.
He is married and has two children and five grandchildren. "I am committed to maintaining my continuing education and practice at the highest level optometry allows. My office is noted for having the latest technology."
